So... we are planning on getting sheep! We have land (about 4 acres), and Adam has built a fence, and everything is in process for us to get sheep this summer to raise and then sell.
But that's not really what my post is about.
Adam typically works Monday through Thursday out of town, comes home Thursday night, and has Friday through Sunday off. But their company is really busy right now, so he's been working Monday through Friday out of town. This is less than ideal for me, because it means I'm a "single mom" for an extra day every week (and that extra day does make a difference!), but it's also not cool for Adam, because he has less time at home to get everything done that he normally gets done. :-/ He started to mow last weekend, but a belt broke on the mower, so he had to stop. So now our grass is really long. Like, really long. Joe said to me yesterday, "I like that your lawn looks like a hayfield." Ha! So it's too bad we don't have sheep yet to help us with our hayfield of a lawn.
...for those of you who have never let your lawn get to that point, or who have never seen a hayfield ( = me before I moved to Wisconsin!), basically our grass is going to seed, so it has wheat-like tops on it. Crazy!

Halloween Variances
I thought I'd do a little post about the differences between Halloween in California and Halloween in Wisconsin. Let me preface this by saying I'm not a Halloween expert by any means, so my brief post is based on general facts that I have observed.
In Wisconsin, costume choices must take the weather into account... because Halloween is pretty much always cold. Not as cold as December - February, but too cold to go around in a t-shirt weight costume. In California, you may need a coat, but you probably don't need to wear long sleeves and leggings under your fairy princess costume.
Also, in California, everyone trick-or-treats on Halloween. Makes sense, right? Apparently, here in Wisconsin, they schedule trick-or-treating by town, and it could be any day in the last week of October, not necessarily on Halloween. I'm not sure if that's just a Southern Wisconsin thing, or if that's all over, but I think it's a little weird! They publish in the local paper when each city or town will be doing trick-or-treating. I only went trick-or-treating probably twice in my life (twice that I remember... once when I was about 10 and once when I was about 15)... but both times it was on October 31st!! Crazy Wisconsin-ites!!

Two things (at least)
Let me just say that it's a pain having divorced parents. If you are the victim of parental divorce, you know what I mean. Not to say that there aren't good things that can come from it... but it's a pain. And now I'm an adult, so you would think the whole custody thing should be over, right? Well, not when you live out of state. Very frustrating!!
Anyway. Yesterday I went on our bank's Dairy Tour, which is a big event we organize every year. Since I am now part of the Ag (Agricultural) department, I helped plan and attended the Dairy Tour. We went to three new or recently improved dairies. One had a robotic calf feeder, so they don't have to hand-bottle-feed newborn calves. Another one had slatted floors which helps limit the amount of cleanup they have to do (which, even from the little I know about dairies, would be a lot when it comes to cows and poop). The final one was huge and very automated - a 5,000 cow dairy. I know you probably don't have a reference to say "is that a lot of cows comparatively speaking," and again, neither do I, but to give you a little bit of perspective, before this dairy was built, the largest dairy in the county was 3,500. In the county! Anyway. It was a neat experience, and even though California is a big dairy state as well (it's the cheese!), I doubt I would have ever gotten a similar opportunity if I was still living in California. And the smell wasn't too bad, for the most part. In California, when you drive past Chino you can smell the manure from the freeway... so I was a little nervous about going INSIDE three dairies! But I survived and I learned a lot, even though I don't remember all of it.
So I am heading to California tonight - I get to see Rowan!!! That boy is going to get so many snuggles he is not going to know what to do with himself! :) And I will go to my friend Julia's wedding, which is going to be awesome/amazing/fantastic/so much fun! And I will be out for a full week, which means I have a week to do what I normally try to cram into two-and-a-half days!! Awesome!! Since I will be busy next week, don't expect a lot of posts. I might surprise you, or I might be snuggling/admiring my new nephew. We'll see ;-)

Second Interview Update
Second interview went well. I have a good feeling. Three people in on the interview this time, interviewers A and B from the first interview, as well as one other person (the one I would be assisting). I think they liked me, and from the way they were talking it sounded like they want to offer me the position. They said I would know in the "near future," so hopefully that means soon! I will of course keep you posted.
Here's a difference between Wisconsin and Southern California - in CA, the weekend before Thanksgiving is just another weekend, getting us closer to the holidays. In WI, the weekend before Thanksgiving means open season for deer hunting! Church was 2/3 empty, and I only had three kids in my Sunday School class! Opening weekend is a big deal out here. I told Adam before we got married, I'm never going to protest him hunting, but I'm also never going to go hunting out there with him in the cold, so we have an understanding :) I'm working on finishing Adam's hunting scarf, so he can use it when he goes out Thanksgiving after we eat.
Well, that's about it for now. I will let you know when I know about the position! :-)

Not so great
Last night, I started to get a headache. At first, it was just annoying, but not that bad. Then, it got progressively worse, and I also started to feel nauseous if I stood up. So I made a fire in the wood stove (which Adam was very, very proud of - odd, because I thought I had done it all wrong) and made Adam snuggle with me while I had a hot compress on my head. When I got up this morning, the nausea was gone, but the headache remained. I don't know what's wrong with me, but I'm going to try to leave work a little early to get some rest.
Also, here's another difference between WI and Southern CA - when it rains in WI, people can still drive. When it rains in Southern CA, everything slows down by at least 15 MPH and it's like we're on severe weather alert... for rain! Come on, Californians, I know it doesn't rain very often, but that doesn't mean you have to ride the brakes to work!
All that to say - it's raining here. Which isn't good. Well, I mean, it's good because it means it's not snowing. However, it's not a good thing because it means snow is on the way :-( I could handle the cold much better if we didn't also have to deal with snow. C'est la vie!
